More people than ever are buying CO2 airguns online in India — and that has attracted a wave of unscrupulous sellers alongside legitimate ones. Whether you are buying your first airgun or adding to an existing collection, here is how to do it right.
Step 1: Understand What You Are Allowed to Buy
As covered in our licence guide, sub-threshold CO2 pistols (under 20 joules, .177 calibre) do not require an arms licence for adult buyers in India. However:
- The seller must still collect your Aadhaar details for identity verification
- If the gun exceeds 20J or is .22+ calibre above threshold, you need a valid Arms Licence (AL)
- Some states may have additional restrictions — check with your local district arms authority
Step 2: Verify the Seller is Legitimate
Red flags that indicate a scam or unlicensed seller:
- No physical address or phone number listed
- Prices that seem impossibly low (genuine Umarex guns cost what they cost)
- No mention of Arms Act compliance or identity verification requirements
- Payment requested via UPI to a personal account (no business invoice)
- No GST registration or proper tax invoice provided
- Selling replica firearms (airsoft guns) described as "CO2 pistols"
Legitimate signals from a real seller:
- Clear physical address and store location
- Aadhaar / ID verification required at checkout
- GST invoice on all purchases
- Visible Arms Act compliance disclaimer
- Authorised dealer of named brands (Umarex, Walther, Beretta, Colt)
Step 3: Check the Product is Genuine
The Indian grey-market is flooded with low-quality Chinese knockoffs of popular models. To verify:
- Buy from an authorised dealer who can provide manufacturer warranty cards
- Check that the brand name on the gun matches exactly (e.g., "Walther", "Umarex" not misspellings)
- Ask for proof of import/distribution authorisation if in doubt
- Genuine Umarex and Walther guns have quality control stamps and proper packaging with manuals
Step 4: Documents Required for Purchase
For sub-threshold CO2 pistols from Sahibzada Gun House, you will need:
- Aadhaar card (both sides)
- Photograph
- Mobile number linked to Aadhaar (for OTP verification)
For above-threshold weapons:
- All of the above, plus
- Valid Arms Licence (AL) — scanned copy
- Licence endorsement for the specific category of weapon
Step 5: Understand the Delivery Process
- CO2 airguns are shipped via reputable courier services (DTDC, Blue Dart, etc.) in discreet packaging
- CO2 cartridges cannot be air-shipped (pressurised goods are prohibited from air cargo) — they ship by surface courier only
- Delivery to some states may be restricted — we will inform you at checkout if your pincode is not serviceable
- A signature is required on delivery — ensure someone is available at the delivery address
After Delivery: What to Check
- Inspect the package for damage before signing. If the box is crushed, photograph it before opening
- Check the serial number on the gun against the invoice
- Test function with one CO2 cartridge before storing
- Register your warranty if a card is provided
